Her ability to construct a novel that reads like a live documentary in your head is undeniable! This story transports you back to an often talked about era where its all about sex (& gender politics), drugs, and rock & roll. The plot arc is magnificent in that you really feel the extreme highs and lows that are associated with the fast and loose lifestyle of a rock band. Also, so many great themes on challenging gender norms & public and private perception of an individuals image and how it impacts their livelihood, which in turns impacts their identity. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As far as characters goes I especially loved Karen, Graham, Camila, and Simone’s perspectives! I think as a reader one feels more like an outsider to the Billy/Daisy dynamic, which in turn operates to make you feel like someone in the band. And like members of the band, you are constantly being reminded that you are only on the peripheral of their greatness. Billy & Daisy’s characters were OK. I found myself kind of annoyed with them and their dynamic towards the end. I mean I think their function makes sense to further the story along, but I just didn’t feel it with them like I did with other characters. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This book is constructed in a docu-style, “tell all” way & I can see why it would be turned into a mini-series. Jenkins Reid also hits us again with some stellar one liners that zing your heart. Happy Friday, friends!⁣ ⁣ 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻⁣ ⁣ I already kicked off my day early with a 2:30am workout. I guess I really need to stay fit & active to eliminate the lower back pain flair ups that seem to happen at ungodly hours. So I’m going to get back into the swing of things & aim for 30 days of working out in some capacity (starting today). Whether it be through the beachbody program or simply a 20 min walk with my pupper, I need to do this to strengthen my core and lose this tummy pouch to lessen this killer back pain. ⁣ ⁣ 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻⁣ ⁣ But in other news, I have my coffee & my weekend read prepared. I got Daisy Jones & the Six for my March book of the month selection, and the hype its been receiving on IG won’t leave be me. So I figured I would pick up earlier than I planned and see what its all about. Taylor Jenkins Reid blew me away with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so I can’t wait to see more of what shes done! “Living everyday in the presence of those who refuse to acknowledge your humanity takes great courage.” ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Pachinko was a beautifully written story full of rich descriptions, vivid characters, and complex thematic elements woven into the historical context. I felt so emotionally connected to this story that I was tearing up at certain parts, feeling the pain that the characters felt and relishing in their victories. The ending left me speechless, and I had to take a few days to digest the entire story, so I could write an intelligible review.
